The Old Mill has limitations of authentic 18th-century architecture and the building is not wheelchair-accessible. There is a considerable grass slope leading up to the mill. Tall steps and narrow doorways may present difficulties for those with physical disabilities. Service animals are welcome to visit the Old Mill.
The Old Mill was built by businessman Isaac Love in 1830. Love is an essential figure in the history of Pigeon Forge. He built the iron forge which gave the city its name in 1817 on the same industrial complex where he built the mill just 13 years later.

Although it is not known why David Selznick of Selznick Studios chose the Old Mill, it is believed to be the only remaining structure from the movie. This a great little hidden city park. A picture of the Old Mill is used in the opening credits of Gone With The Wind. Built in the 1930s it was never used as a real mill.
